Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrator Karen Robinson | 12 Weeks of Halloween – Week 8
Hello again 🙂 Sorry I’ve been MIA for a couple of weeks, a combination of holidays, technical problems & life just got in the way, but I’m back and will be working extra hard to get all my Halloween projects shared with you, so I hope you ready for a Halloween overload 😉
Today I have some little boxes embellished with the cute characters from the Boo To You stamp set to share with you. I think these little guys are so much fun and while they are Halloween themed, I think they could be used for many other occasions – with a little imagination 😉
The finished size of these boxes is 2-1/2″ x 4″ x 1/2″ and each box only needs a piece of 5″ x 8″ cardstock – which means you can make two of these from one piece of A4 cardstock 🙂 I did all the scoring first and then popped my box into the Stamparatus to stamp a sentiment from Spooktacular Bash on the inside for a fun surprise when you open the front flap before I started trimming the edges.
TIP: The sentiment will need to be upside down to be in the correct orientation when the box is assembled, I placed mine closer to the scored line to add a Monster Bash Enamel Shapes embellishment above, but you could centre it if preferred.
After I’d stamped the inner sentiment I folded & burnished all the score lines, trimmed the tabs & rounded the corners of the front flap. To add a little interest to this flap I popped it into the Swirls & Curls Embossing Folder and loved the extra texture this gave 🙂
I used a 1-/12″ x 7″ piece of cardstock to create a belly band to keep my boxes closed, but you could use Velcro, magnets or simply seal them instead. I finger folded them to fit each individual box perfectly and then added a sentiment die cut with one of the Stitched Shapes Dies and popped my little characters up with dimensionals.
The characters were stamped onto Whisper White cardstock and coloured with Stampin’ Blends Markers (colours will be in the Supply List), I added a few highlights with a white jelly roll pen (non SU) and fussy cut them out with my Paper Snips. The final touch was – of course – a pair of googly eyes from the Assorted Googly Eyes, I love how these look on these funny fellows 🙂
Here’s the How To:
Finished Size: 2-1/2″ x 4″ x 1/2″
Cardstock: 5″ x 8″
Cardstock: 7″ x 1-1/2″ (for bellyband)
- Score @ 2-1/4″, 2-3/4″, 5-1/4″ & 5-3/4″ (on 8″ side)
- Turn 90°
- Score @ 1/2″ & 4-1/2″ (on 5″ side)
- Chose one end to be the flap and stamp a sentiment on the other end (optional)
- TIP: Make sure this inner sentiment is upside down
- Trim tabs as per diagram
- Fold & burnish score lines
- Round corners of top flap (optional)
- Emboss top flap (optional)
- Apply adhesive as shown in diagram and assemble box
- Finger fold bellyband around box to fit, reinforce folds with bone folder and adhere ends together
- Decorate as desired
I was so happy with how these little boxes turned out and despite their small size you can fit quite a few goodies inside. I have in these ones four of the Hershey’s Minatures or a giant Freddo (the 35g one – it’s a perfect fit!). I already have some dibs on these ones, which is good, a giant Freddo is just a little too tempting in my house 😉
Cheers,
Karen
