May Paper Pumpkin – Alternative 1

My first ever Paper Pumpkin Kit arrived earlier this week and I’ve been having a lovely time creating the gorgeous cards inside. The cards included are notecard size and while they’re perfect just the way they are, I knew I wanted to try to make some full size cards as well as make my supplies go a little further 🙂

Although this month’s kit is feminine & nature themed, I have a lot of guys in my family so wanted to try to get a least a couple of masculine cards out of this kit and chose the card with the writing on it to try this with.

I only wanted to use the supplies for the original card – including the envelope, to create two cards from the one. I had to add just a few extras, but tried to keep them to a minimum so anyone can try these for themselves if they’d like to 🙂

I used Thick Very Vanilla cardstock for my card bases and Pretty Peacock as a contrast layer. (NOTE: Pretty Peacock is one of the *new* 2019-21 In Colors and won’t available until June 4, you could use one of the other coordinating colours instead & I think Tranquil Tide would work quite nicely as well).

I started off cutting this card in half which gave me two pieces approx. 8.9 x 12.7cm. I cut these down to 8.0 x 12.4cm to create a nice layer for our C6 size cards (TIP: Keep the 0.9cm offcut to use on other cards) however, if you’re in another country, use whatever measurements are right for your card size.

For the above card I added a few of the background speckle stamp around the edges and a 3/8″ strip of DSP (from the envelope) towards the left. I stamped the bird (3rd generation) on the label and added a sentiment from Piece of Cake – as I need more birthday cards, towards the right. I added a vellum feather and a little twist of twine and popped it up on my card front with dimensionals.

This layer was adhered to a 8.5 x 12.9cm layer of Pretty Peacock cardstock and then to a Very Vanilla card base. I’d stamped the feather image three times in two corners of my card base to dress it up a little as there was such a big border that was looking a little bland.

My second card uses the back of the card and I cut it down to the same size as the previous one. I added the speckle stamp in a L shape, using 1st & 2nd generation stamping and three of the birds towards the top right.

I cut another strip of DSP (from the envelope) 1/2″ wide and layered some of the velvet ribbon on top. I stamped two feathers (2nd generation) on a scrap of Very Vanilla cardstock and coloured them in with Light Bermuda Bay & Dark Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends Markers then fussy cut them out and popped them up with dimensionals. A tiny knot of twine added a little more texture to my card and gave me a spot to add a dimensional offcut to support the stems of my feathers 🙂

I layered this up & used the same sentiment the same as the last card and added some more of the speckles to the card base this time.
