Welcome to the fifth project in this year’s 12 Weeks of Halloween series. Today I have a middling sized bag to share with you made using the Spooktacular Bash Bundle & Pressed Petals DSP.

While I love the Monster Bash DSP that is this year’s Halloween paper I wanted to change up the look a little on this project and thought the background patterns from the Pressed Petals DSP would suit these little bags perfectly and give me a chance to use some different colours 🙂

I’ve seen bags like this before and really like the look of the rounded handles, but the originals used a die or cut file to get their shape. After a little experimenting I managed recreate a similar look just by adding some circles to a basic bag base and while it’s not exactly the same it was close enough to make me happy 🙂

The bags measure 3-1/4″ x 3″ x 1″ and only use a 4-1/4″ x 8-1/4″ piece of cardstock (if you use Letter size cardstock you can leave yours at 8-1/2″) which means you can make two of these from just one piece of cardstock.

The handles will need some extra pieces measuring 4″ x 3-1/2″ (x2), but this is a great way to use up some of your larger scraps. I used the Layering Circles Dies to cut them out and used the largest & 6th largest to get the size I wanted.

The DSP band around the centre of the bag is only 3″ x 8-1/4″ and I recommend adhering this to the bag base after scoring the cardstock, but before folding & burnishing to get a great result.

To decorate the front of my bags I stamped the vampire & mummy from Spooktacular Bash onto Whisper White cardstock and coloured them with my Stampin’ Blends Markers (the colours I used will be in the Supply List).

I wanted to add a little colour to the frame around each image and used Merry Merlot & Mossy Meadow ink pads and a Blender Pen to fill them in. The Blender Pen was perfect to fill in this small area and I love the shading I have from the ink just fading out as it was applied.

I die cut the images and layering filigree piece and popped them up with dimensionals for some extra texture. A little “creepy” sentiment was die cut as well and tied onto a cute bow of Scalloped Edge Ribbon with Linen Thread so it can swing freely, but you could glue it in place under the ribbon instead if you preferred.

Here’s the How To:

Finished Size: 3-1/4″ x 3″ 1″
Cardstock: 4-1/4″ x 8-1/4″ (for bag base)
4″ x 3-1/2″(for handles x2)
DSP: 3″ x 8-1/4″

• To create the bag base score @ 1″, 4″, 5″ & 8″ (on the 8-1/4″ side)
• Turn 90°
• Score @ 1″ (on the 4-1/4″ side)
• Adhere the strip of DSP to the bag base before folding & burnishing score lines
• With the 1/4″ tab to the right, trim as shown in the diagram
• Adhere the handles to the inside of the bag
• Assemble the bag
• Decorate as desired

Even though this bag is small it really can hold quite a few treats, I have a pencil, 50g Cadbury chocolate bar, 28g bag of Jelly Bellys and small lollipop in these ones and there is still room for even more! I think these would make great gifts for teachers or work colleagues as they have a nice grownup vibe to them, but swap out the colours for some brighter ones and they’d be perfect for kids as well 🙂
