#simplestamping – Festive Friday

Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrator Karen Robinson |#simplestamping – Festive Friday

Hi everyone 🖐 Today I have my first Christmas card of the year to share with you, using the sweet Plaid Tidings stamp set & coordinating Pine Tree Punch from the 2020-21 Annual Catalogue.

I’m playing along wiht this month’s #simplestamping challenge from Stampin’ Up! which is to create a Christmas/New Year’s card using only stamps, ink, paper & punches + keep it simple.

Little Paper Party, #simplestamping, Perfectly Plaid, 1

The Perfectly Plaid stamp set debuted in last year’s Holiday Catalogue and carried over into the Annual one so there are already loads of ideas out there using this set, but I tried to mix it up a little by using a non-traditional colour palette for today’s project.

I stamped the tree outline in Gorgeous Grape ink and the fill in stamp with Highland Heather. This is a photopolymer stamp set which makes it easy to line up the images & I think are great for beginner stampers as you can really see where you’re stamping.

I wanted a little something behind my trees so I stamped the “Ho Ho Ho” sentiment in Highland Heather ink on Highland Heather cardstock & punched it out with the 2″ Circle Punch.

I adhered this with Tombow to a Thick Whisper White card base and added my trees on top, popping up the centre one with dimensionals for a little texture.

The sentiment was stamped in Gorgeous Grape ink on a 1-1/8″ x 3″ piece of Whisper White, I layered this onto a 1-1/4″ x 3-1/8″ piece of Highland Heather cardstock and popped it up wiht dimensionals as well.

I chose to stamp the sentiment separately rather than on the card front because if I made a mistake I could easily redo it and it gave me an opportunity to add a little more colour & texture to this simple card.

I cut an inside layer in Whisper White to 14.3 x 10cm and stamped the tree outline in Highland Heather, stamped off twice for a light shade and then added another sentiment from Perfectly Plaid in Gorgeous Grape over the top.

I decided to add the inside layer for the same mistake prevention reason as the front and it also adds a little weight which helps balance the card

Card Cuts:
  • Card Base: 14.8 x 10.5cm (when folded – Thick Whisper White cardstock)
  • Sentiment Strip: 1-1/8″ x 3″ (Whisper White cardstock)
  • Sentiment Layer: 1-1/4″ x 3-1/8″ (Highland Heather cardstock)
  • Inner Layer: 10 x 14.3cm (Whisper White cardstock)
Step-It-Up Ideas:
  • Add more layers to the inside/outside
  • Add sequins, rhinestones, Wink of Stella etc… for some sparkle
  • Die cut the sentiment layers & circle

I really like how today’s card turned out, it would be perfect to make in bulk as it’s so simple & you could make it in a rainbow of colours.
