Keeping it clean & simple

Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrator Karen Robinson | Keeping it clean & simple

Happy Monday everyone, I hope you had a lovely weekend, ours is finally a little cooler which is greatly appreciated 🙂 I thought I’d break out one of my favourite sets from the 2019-20 Annual Catalogue, Stargazing for today’s project and I’m also playing along with the AAA Cards #159 challenge for the design.

The AAA Cards challenges are all about keeping your cards clean & simple (CAS) which means lots of white space and is a look I love, the hardest part – for me however, is achieving that look without the card looking too boring or bland.

Specialty techniques are always a good way to add interest to simple projects and so I decided to use Sponge Daubers to create some multi-coloured imagery and spruce up my CAS project 🙂

I chose Crushed Curry, Pacific Point & Rich Razzleberry for my colour combo and simply inked up the different parts of my stamp using one colour, overlapping a little to create a “new” colour in between.

I used the Stamparatus to stamp the card front to make sure I got a good impression for the moon and then inked and stamped the sentiments in stages so I could repeat the stamping to make it nice and bold, ie; the yellow parts were inked and stamped twice, then the blue x2 and lastly the purple x2.

The border actually started out as something else, but it wasn’t working so I decided to make it this layer instead and really like how it turned out 🙂 I used a block this time and inked different parts of the image up with the Sponge Daubers and my three colours and then stamped it around the edge of the cardstock.

The key to getting a nice result was thoroughly cleaning the stamp after each impression to keep the colours crisp & clean and not ending up with muddy colours. This is a bit more work and my fingers were definitely not clean at the end, but I think the end result was worth it 🙂

As I decided to use a coloured card base I added a Whisper White layer inside and used the same technique to add another sentiment and the border image to tie the inside & outside together.

To finish off my simple card I really wanted a little sparkle so adhered a few Sparkling Clear Jewels from Pretty Pink Posh which added just the right amount of shimmer & shine 🙂

I really enjoyed creating this fun (and messy) card, it’s a bit different to my usual style, but I really like how it turned out and I’m sure the ink will wash off my fingers eventually 😉

Cheers,
Karen
