Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrator Karen Robinson | Australia Day Fun – Part 1
Now that January’s started it means that Australia Day is just around the corner and as we have a sweet little koala image in the *new* Bonanza Buddies stamp set, I thought I whip up a few Aussie treats with him as the star 🙂
I know many of my readers aren’t in Australia, but these ideas could be used for any celebration, just change up the images &/or sentiments and you’ll have some quick & easy goodies to spice up any event.
My first project is a simple box and I was inspired by the one in the Mini Catalogue (p32), the sample uses the tag from the Bonanza Dies as the front and back, but I decided to keep it simple and just use one piece of cardstock instead.
Each box uses a 8″ x 5-1/2″ piece of cardstock, which means you could made two from one sheet of A4 or Imperial sized cardstock, perfect for making multiples 🙂 After I’d scored the cardstock I adhered a 2″ x 8″ strip of Birthday Bonanza DSP towards the bottom and folded, burnished & assembled my box.
I kept the decoration very simple to make it easy to reproduce and started by die cutting circles of Whisper White cardstock using the second largest circle from the Stitched Shapes Dies, then stamped the pompom image from Bonanza Buddies to create a “fireworks” background.
The koala was stamped in Smoky Slate and Momento Black ink using my Stamparatus and die cut with the coordinating die from the Bonanza Dies. I masked off some of the sentiment with washi tape to add just the word “celebrate” at the base of each circle and then popped my koala & the finished embellishment up with dimensionals to the front of each box.
I added some treats to one of the Printed Gusseted Cellophane Bags and then tied them up with the Daffodil Delight Ruched Ribbon to finish off these simple treat boxes. I know any child – or grown-up for that matter, would love to take one of these home and have been guarding them from the prying fingers in my household until after the photos were done 😉
Here’s the How To:
Finished Size: 2-5/8″ x 1-1/8″ x 4-3/8″
Cardstock: 8″ x 5-1/2″
DSP: 2″ x 8″
- Score @ 1-1/8″. 3-3/4″, 4-7/8″ & 7-1/2″ (on 8″ side)
- Turn 90°
- Score @ 1-1/8″ (on 5-1/2″ side)
- Adhere DSP strip towards bottom of box
- Fold & burnish score lines
- Along the base, wedge smallest tabs and remove small rectangle on 1/2″ flap
- Add adhesive to 1/2″ flap and assemble box
- Add adhesive to the bottom flaps and assemble base
- Decorate as desired
I hope you enjoyed this first project, a quick and easy one for hot days. The lollies I’ve added to my treat bags include Minties, Fantales, bananas, pineapples & Allens mixed lollies, these are some of the less “meltable” kind, perfect for our Summer weather and outdoor celebrations.
Cheers,
Karen
