Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrator Karen Robinson | 12 Weeks of Halloween 2019 – Week 10
I’m back with another Halloween project this week as I’m trying to play catchup and I have a more grown-up project to share with you today using the Coffin Treat Boxes and lots of heat embossing 🙂
These little boxes were an immediate favourite of mine from the 2019 Holiday Catalogue and while I’d usually love to add lots of colour and layers to dress them up, today I thought I’d keep it elegant and simple and love how they turned out – the photos really don’t do them justice.
Today’s project was inspired by this pin I found on Pinterest, I loved the simple, classic style of this and thought I’d like to see if I could make something similar. I chose the Crackle Paint background stamp to decorate the coffin lids and folded the sides up before bringing the lid to my stamp as I just wanted the embossing on the top.
I decided to mix it up a little and emboss them in Gold, Silver & Copper Embossing Powder, they all turned out beautifully and while I don’t have a favourite the silver definitely stands out more as it contrasts the most with the black base.
I wanted to keep the decoration simple and thought the silhouette images in Wonderfully Wicked would be the perfect touch. I heat embossed these onto Basic Black cardstock in the same colours and then fussy cut them out with my Paper Snips.
I layered them onto some Basic Black cardstock and Black Foil that I’d die cut with some of the Ornate Frames Dies and made sure to pop up some of my elements with Black Dimensionals to add a little extra interest.
I positioned my dimensionals so I could tie a length of Scalloped Edge Ribbon around the box which keeps them securely closed and adds a little more texture. I left if off the cat box, but think I’ll go back and add it as it adds such a lovely finishing touch.
I think these would look so lovely as part of a place setting, especially by candlelight as it really highlights the embossing and makes them look even creepier 🙂 – my photos are far too bright.
There are so many great ideas of how to decorate these little boxes on Pinterest, if you’re after something a bit brighter make sure you have a look for some inspiration. I really like how these ones turned out however, they have a bit more of the “creep” factor that I love.
Cheers,
Karen
