Today I have a fun birthday card to share with you to start off a busy week. I’m using the cute We’ll Walrus Be Friends stamp set from the 2019-20 Annual Catalogue and pairing it with sentiments from Party Like A Panda (from Simon Says Stamp).

I’m playing along with this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge (FMS400) for the layout of my card. This is a special week, being their 400th sketch and there are some great prizes on offer on top of the usual fun of playing along. Make sure you hop over and check it out while there’s still time 🙂

I decided to use this sweet walrus from the We’ll Walrus Be Friends stamp set and really wanted him to sit on the ice floe to help ground him. I used my Stamparatus and Basic Black Marker to ink up just the ice & water from the first stamp, then lined up the walrus and stamped him in Momento Black ink on top. There was a bit more of a gap between this walrus and the original, so I used my Basic Black Marker again to extend the lines a little – it worked out perfectly 🙂

I coloured the walrus, ice & background with Stampin’ Blends Markers (colours will be in the Supply List) and decided to add just a splash of colour by adding one of the fish. I stamped him separately, fussy cut him out then cut a small slit for him to sit in. I love how he’s just popped out of the water to see what’s going on.

After I’d finished colouring all my images I used the largest square from the Stitched Shapes Dies to cut out my scene and popped it up on a Thick Whisper White card base with a layer of Balmy Blue cardstock & Come Sail Away DSP in between.

The sentiment is from Party Like A Panda (SSS) and I thought it was perfect to go with my well-fed friend 😉 I trimmed this out with my Paper Snips and popped it up as well. The final touch were a few sequins from the Iridescent Sequin Assortment, I chose colours that tied in with the focal image and love the little extra colour & sparkle they add 🙂

I decided to add a coloured insert to the inside of my card for a change and die cut a piece of Balmy Blue cardstock with a rectangle die from my stash and added another sentiment from Party Like A Panda (SSS) and one more cheeky fish to tie everything together.

I really, really like the We’ll Walrus Be Friends stamp set, the expressions on all the animals are just so mischievous. I also enjoy mixing and matching my stamp sets, especially images & sentiments, I can get so much more versatility out my stamps this way and always consider the sentiments with the images as just a starting point 🙂
