Ready or not…

Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrator Karen Robinson | Ready or not…

Today I have a fun card to share with you made using one of my favourite *new* stamp sets from the 2019-20 Annual Catalogue, We’ll Walrus Be Friends. The walrus images in this set were just too cute, I just couldn’t pass it by 🙂

I’ve paired it up with the Piece of Cake stamp set – which carried over from the 2019 Occasions Catalogue, to create a silly birthday card which still makes me smile every time I look at it 🙂

I started off stamping all the images I was going to use in Momento Black ink onto Whisper White cardstock and then coloured them in with my Stampin’ Blends Markers (all the colours are in the supply list below). I used the *new* Grey Granite combo to colour my walruses, it just seemed the perfect walrus colour and I was so happy to see it added to our Stampin’ Blends collection.

I added a few highlights with a white Gelly Roll pen (non SU) and then fussy cut out all my images with my Paper Snips. I did go over all the edges with my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker to cover all the white edges and hide any uneven trimming.

I really wanted my coloured and fussy cut images to be the stars of my card, so decided to keep the backgrounds quite simple. I die cut two panels of Whisper White cardstock with a die from my stash and stamped the sentiments on each one with my Stamparatus.

I used the Balmy Blue combo to create a very simple watery background and created some “bubbles” using the Color Lifter.

The images have a sketchy background which was lost when I fussy cut them out, it really added a lot to their expressions so after I’d figured out my layout I stamped the outlines again in Momento Black to give it back – it’s a little fiddly, but the end result is totally worth it 🙂

The hat on my inside walrus is from a stamp set in my stash (Lawn Fawn – Year Nine), it’s not really necessary, but just seemed to add the final festive touch to my birthday walrus 😉

All the inside images were adhered flat, but I decided to pop up my front ones to add a little extra interest to my very plain card front. This is one of those rare cards  – for me anyway -where the inside is the star. I really like the surprise element in this case though.

This was my first play with this set and I’m was so pleased with how this fun card turned out. I really hope Stampin’ Up! bring out more of these punny sets, they really are my cup of tea 🙂 and if anyone knows any good walrus puns, please let me know, I came up blank when I was looking for some good ones to use with this set 🙂

Cheers,
Karen
