It feels like we’re just flying through March which means that Sale-A-Bration will be ending very soon! So today, I have another Sale-A-Bration goodie to spotlight – the Part of My Story stamp set and I’ve paired it with another favourite, the Botanical Butterfly DSP.

The Part of My Story stamp set has six sentiments so I decided to create six cards using the same basic layout. The background for each card is the Botanical Butterfly DSP and I decided to use only the black and white patterns and add just a few pops of colour with some of the butterflies and a little colouring.

Most of the cards have butterflies as the main decoration and I did use the Butterfly Duet Punch (from the 2019 Occasions Catalogue) to quickly punch them out, but you could easily fussy cut them –  I did trim a little of the background colour off a few of them where I thought the contrast was a little harsh.

The butterflies are the only decoration I added to my cards and is a great way to use your graphic DSP and pad out limited supplies 🙂

The only card I did a little something different with is the one above. This particular sheet of DSP has a very large pattern so to make it fit the style of card I was making by just decided to highlight a few of the smaller flowers with Daffodil Delight and Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Blends Markers. I did add one small butterfly to tie in with the other cards and touched up wings with the Stampin’ Blends so it coordinated perfectly with the other colours on this card.

All the sentiments were stamped in Momento Black ink onto Whisper White and die cut with the 2nd or 3rd smallest oval from the Stitched Shapes Framelits, I also die cut a larger oval using the 4th or 6th smallest oval from the Layering Ovals Framelits in Basic Black to mat my sentiments and help them pop from the background.

If you don’t have a Big shot you could use punches or just trim them down using your Stampin’ Trimmer into rectangles for the same effect.

TIP: If you’re just starting out with die cutting I highly recommend the layering sets, they’re a great way to cut out all sorts of images and easy to add a mat to dress them up. My favourites are still the Stitched Shapes Framelits, I love the stitching detail and there are four sizes of squares, ovals and circles in this one set, great value for money 🙂

I layered my DSP onto a Whisper White or Basic Black mat and then a white or black card base. The sentiments were all popped up with dimensionals and I added some Glittered Organdy Ribbon (carried over from the 2018 Holiday Catalogue) underneath to dress them up a little. The final touch on the front of each card was a few rhinestones on each butterfly for some extra sparkle 🙂

To finish off the inside I just added a couple of butterflies in one corner, but otherwise left them blank so I can personalise it for the recipient.

Card Cuts:

Layer 1: 10 x 14.4cm
DSP: 9 x 13.4cm
– with the DSP in portrait & the pattern in the correct orientation, cut at 4cm
– take the 4cm wide piece and place in landscape with the pattern to the right, cut at 9cm
– take the 5cm wide piece and place in landscape with the pattern to the right, cut at 5cm

I really enjoy being able to find a layout I can use to create a stack of cards with and this one is one of my favourites. I’m so glad I finally got to ink up this fun set and there are several of the sentiments I would like to use again and again.
