Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrator Karen Robinson | #simplestamping Valentine

Stampin’ Up! have introduced a #simplestamping challenge this year to encourage Demonstrators to come up with simple cards suitable for beginner cardmakers – or anyone really, because who doesn’t like a simple card? 😉

January’s challenge was to create a Valentine’s themed card and while I did make this card in January, I’m only blogging about it now and I think I may have to work on the “simple” part because when I showed my husband he didn’t think it looked simple at all – oops 😦

Little Paper Party, Meant To Be, #simplestamping, #1

I used the Meant To Be stamp set for this card and felt like using some softer colours this time so so decided to stick to the Subtles range for all my inks and cardstock – except Whisper White.

I used the striped heart from Meant To Be and stamped it on a piece of Whisper White cardstock using Balmy Blue, Calypso Coral, Highland Heather, Mint Macaron & So Saffron using first and second generation stamping (2nd generation stamping is stamping the image again after you’ve stamped it once to get a lighter image). I trimmed this piece down to 4 x 13.8cm after I’d finished stamping and adhered it to a 4.2 x 13.8cm piece of Balmy Blue cardstock to add a small border.

I adhered this piece to a 9.5 x 13.8cm piece of Whisper White and stamped the sentiment and three hearts off to the right. I added one more Balmy Blue layer (10 x 14.3cm) and adhered all this to a standard Thick Whisper White card base.

I wanted to add a little dimension to my stamping so stamped the hearts again in each colour, cut them out with my Paper Snips and popped them up using dimensionals over a heart of the same colour.

Little Paper Party, Meant To Be, #simplestamping, #3

To finish off the inside I stamped another sentiment on a piece of Whisper White (9.5 x 13.8cm) and added the same three hearts underneath. I made a mistake in lining these up originally so stamped them again on a scrap, cut it into a banner and popped it on top – you’d never know 🙂

That’s one thing I really like about cardmaking, quite often you can “fix” a mistake & if not, it’s only paper so you just start again.

I adhered this panel to another Balmy Blue piece (10 x 14.3cm) and then to my card base.

I still like to use Tombow to adhere my layers together as it gives me the wiggle room I need to get everything straight before it dries – I still can’t put a layer on straight the first time 😦

Card Cuts:

Whisper White:
4 x 13.8cm (x1)
9.5 x 13.8cm (x2)

Balmy Blue:
4.2 x 13.8cm (x1)
10 x 14.3cm (x2)

Thick Whisper White card base:
1/2 A4 sheet, folded in half, finished size 10.5 x 14.8cm

I really like how this card turned out and don’t be afraid to swap out these colours for ones you like and use less if you only have a few – it will look just as good. I’m not quite sure if I met the #simplestamping brief on this first card, but I’ll keep trying 🙂

Cheers,
Karen
