The Simple Joys

Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrator Karen Robinson | The Simple Joys

I’m playing along with this week’s Color Throwdown challenge CTD510, which is a fun combination of red, orange, kraft and green. I’m definitely getting into the Christmas zone, so went with that for my theme and decided to dust off my Watercolor Pencils to use for my colouring.

I was struggling to think find an image that could include orange easily until I remembered the fun snowman from Seasonal Chums – the carrot has to be orange, right?

I stamped him in Versafine Onyx Black ink and coloured him with Basic Black, Basic Grey, Calypso Coral (cheeks), Early Espresso (bunny) and Pumpkin Pie. I used Cherry Cobbler and Garden Green as well for the main red/green combo (these were available in August, but are currently unavailable, hopefully they’ll make it into the permanent range soon).

I die cut my snowman using the coordinating Seasonal Tags Framelits and popped him up on a stitched oval that I’d run through the *new* Corrugated Dynamic TIEF ready to add to the front of my card.

The checked strip was created using the *new* Buffalo Check background stamp in Momento Black ink on Cherry Cobbler cardstock. I used my Stamparatus for this so I could stamp it multiple times to get a really dark image and then trimmed it down to 6.5 x 13.8cm.

To create the fun holly background behind the checkered strip I stamped the holly image from Takeout Treats over a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock and coloured them in. I trimmed this to 13.8 x 9.5cm added the checkered strip and layered them both onto a 14.3 x 10cm Garden Green layer and then a Cherry Cobbler card base.

A sentiment from Christmas Pines was white heat embossed on the checkered strip and a swish of Black Shimmer Ribbon, a few die cut snowflakes and rhinestones added the finishing touches to the front of my card.

I added the same layers inside, some more holly and a sentiment from a retired set to dress up the inside of my card as well and now I have one more to add to this year’s stash – a grand total of two now 😉

I really enjoyed colouring with my Watercolor Pencils just by themselves for a change and was really impressed with how well they coloured on the Crumb Cake cardstock. I’ll have to make sure to use them more often 🙂

Cheers,
Karen
