Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrator Karen Robinson | Bye-bye Bird Banter
One of the stamp sets I was a little disappointed to see on the Retirement List was Bird Banter, this is such a fun set with those cheeky little birds and “punny” sentiments. This is now available while supplies last, so if it’s been on your must-have list, make sure to add it to your shopping basket soon before it’s gone for good!
I’ve had today’s project in mind for quite a while now and am glad I waited because I could get to play with the *new* 2018-2020 In Colors. This year’s colours are really fun and vibrant and are available to purchase as a set now. They were perfect to use for my colourful birds and I’m looking forward to having them for the next two years 🙂
To create the backgrounds I stamped the birds in VersaMark ink randomly over Shimmer White cardstock, and heat embossed them in white using my Heat Tool.
I added a wash of colour using the ink pad lid and an aqua painter in Pineapple Punch, Grapefruit Grove and Call Me Clover. This is a quick and easy way to colour a background and after it’s dry you simply wipe over the embossed areas with a tissue/cloth to reveal the embossed outlines.
I did take a little extra care with the budgies as I wanted to add Lovely Lipstick to the hearts. The embossing really helps here as it keeps the colours inside the lines and stops them from mixing, perfect for what I wanted 🙂
After the backgrounds were completely dry I trimmed them to size and added a layer of Basic Black cardstock, to make the colours pop and added that to a Thick Whisper White card base.
I stamped the birds and other images again on Shimmer White cardstock in Archival Black ink (retiring – available while supplies last) to colour with the same inks and a Blender Pen. I decided to use a clear block as a palette for all five colours, I found it easier to change between the colours this way and could add more ink quickly if needed.
After I’d finished colouring, I fussy cut all my images and ran a Basic Black Marker around the edges to cover the white cut edge which gives them a more finished look.
The sentiments were stamped on Whisper White cardstock and die cut with the label from the Magical Mates Framelits (retiring – available while supplies last). I popped these up with dimensionals and added the birds to them.
These were such a fun set of cards to make and I love how the new colours look, they coordinate beautifully 🙂 Often I have only one or two favourites in the new In Colors, but this year I like them all and am thrilled with how well they work together.
These fun, bright colours are available now to purchase only as a cost saving set (save 10%), you’ll have to wait until June to buy them individually, but who wants to pay full price if you don’t have to???
