It’s time for some Cool Treats

Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrator Karen Robinson | It’s time for some Cool Treats

It’s still Summer here in Australia and the past week in Brisbane has been hot, hot, hot! Ice creams have been a vital part of the weekly daily menu 😉 and the perfect stamp set to help get your mind off the temperature – and stop you from eating too many ice creams – had to be Cool Treats from the Annual Catalogue.

Cool Treats and the coordinating Frozen Treats Framelits carried over from last year’s Occasions Catalogue and is a fun set to create all sorts of yummy cards that are also diet friendly 😉

I tried a new (to me) technique on these ice creams of faux water colouring inspired by this video by Dena Rekow from The Creativity Cave. I really loved how this turned out on my project, the colours are much more vibrant than just stamping them and I like the texture that the Watercolour Paper added as well.

The colours that I chose are from the Tutti-frutti DSP that I used in the background plus some Crumb Cake for the sticks. I added a generous layer of Clear Wink of Stella to all the ice creams when they were dry and popped them up with dimensionals in the centre of my card.

I created the fun curved borders on the Tutti-frutti DSP using the Rainbow Builder Framelits. I was so excited to see these cloud edgelits in the new Occasions Catalogue and knew they could be used for so much more than just clouds 🙂

I added a simple sentiment from Cool Treats stamped in Peekaboo Peach and tied a tiny bow of Peekaboo Peach Baker’s Twine around one end – so cute.

NOTE: Peekaboo Peach is one of the retiring 2016-18 In Colours. If this is one your favourites make sure to stock up in ink refills and cardstock soon. Retiring In Colours usually sell out long before the next Annual Catalogue goes live (in June).

To finish off my card front I added some Tutti-frutti Adhesive Backed Sequins, one of each colour, I love how easy these are to use 🙂

I added some more DSP on the inside and a few cherries and strawberries die cut from watercolour paper with a wash of Real Red.  A few stripes of Washi Tape added some more colour & pattern at the top and reminded me of the striped awnings you used to see over shop windows.

I hope you like my cool, Summery project today, it was fun to play around and experiment with something I hadn’t tried before, I’ll have to see how it goes on our Shimmery White cardstock next – love that paper 🙂
