In the Spotlight – Epic Celebrations

Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrator Karen Robinson | In the Spotlight – Epic Celebrations

At the beginning of each year I take stock of all the cards I have to see which ones need topping up. It’s usually the guy cards, which makes sense as I have three sons, brothers + more male relatives/friends, so I tend to go through them pretty quickly.

I’m always on the lookout for products to cater for this group and was thrilled when I saw Epic Celebrations in the 2018 Sale-A-Bration brochure. This is a fun stamp set, perfect for guys and girls and you can get if for FREE with a $90 order in my Online Store.

The design for todays card was inspired by this weeks’ challenge at Freshly Made Sketches #322. I love this weeks’ sketch, simple and classic, but with so many options, make sure to head over for some inspiration.

I used the Epic Celebrations stamp set for my take on this week’s sketch and kept to a narrow colour palette of Dapper Denim, Basic Grey, Whisper White and black, which I think is a pretty safe colour combination for most guys 🙂

NOTE: Dapper Denim is one of the retiring 2016-18 In Colours. If this is one of your favourites make sure to stock up on ink refills and cardstock soon. Retiring In Colours usually sell out long before the next Annual Catalogue goes live (in June).

My card base is Dapper Denim with the little spot image stamped tone-on-tone. I layered a 8.5 x 12.8cm Basic Grey layer, embossed with the Brick Wall TIEF in the centre, which made a great background for my focal images.

I stamped the runners and headphones on Thick Whisper White cardstock using Momento Black ink and coloured them with my Stampin’ Blends Markers. I used both the Light and Dark Night of Navy and Smoky Slate markers on both images.

I wanted the white soles of the runners to look a little grungy so used the Light Smoky Slate marker along the edges and then came in with the Colour Lifter to remove most of it to achieve this look.

I cut this element out with the 2nd largest Stitched Shapes square and popped it up on the card front with dimensionals.

The headphones were coloured the same way as the shoes and I cut them out so they could drape around the sentiment banner. I used scissors on the outside, but had to use a craft knife to cut out the inside. I went over the cut edges with a Basic Black Marker to cover up the white edges and help hide any minor cutting mistakes 🙂

The sentiment was stamped in Momento Black ink and was fussy cut to create a banner with the “you’re” attached separately. A strand of Basic Black Baker’s Twine created a cable for the headphones and I used the Fine Tip Glue to attach this to the card.

Of course, no project of mine is complete without a little sparkle 😉 so I added a few silver stars from the Metallic Enamel Shapes as a final touch.

I hoped you liked my take on this week’s sketch, I really enjoyed making it 🙂 If you’d like even more ideas on how to use this great set check out my SU Occasions and SAB 2018 Pinterest Board for loads of inspiration. If you’d like to add this one to your guy/teen collection it’s only available as a FREE Sale-A-Bration reward, so stock up on some essentials and when your order reaches $90 you can add this great set to your cart as well 🙂

Cheers,
Karen
