Cards to go

Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrator Karen Robinson | Cards to go

I love Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Series Paper (DSP for short) and am a big fan of it doing most of the work for me on my projects. It has colour, pattern and sometimes texture and while I enjoy stamping and special techniques, if I’m after quick and easy, DSP is the way to go.

My project today is featuring the gorgeous Petal Passion DSP in the Occasions Catalogue. This paper pack is full of lovely black and white designs which shine on their own, but the addition of a little colour really makes them sing 🙂

This particular floral design I find a little busy by itself, but when I added some colour to just a few of the flowers I created a focal image and the rest became just a subtle background.

I used Stampin’ Up! Blends Markers for these designs, but there are loads of other techniques to add colour to this paper as well. Patty Bennett (a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator in the U.S.) made this video which demonstrates four different ways to add colour to this paper, make sure to check it out for more ideas.

For this first card I used both light and dark Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Pink Pirouette and Pool Party Stampin’ Blends Markers to highlight a few of the flowers and leaves in the centre of a 9.5 x 13.8cm DSP panel.

I adhered this panel to a layer of Pool Party cardstock that was cut 2mm larger all round and then to a Basic Black card base.

The sentiment is from Dragonfly Dreams and was heat embossed in white on a 1/2″ wide piece of Basic Black cardstock. A 3/4″ wide layer of Vellum behind it accented my sentiment strip and softened the contrast.

My second card highlights one of the bigger blooms and I used both light and dark Calypso Coral and Old Olive Stampin’ Blends Markers to colour this one. I love that this DSP has shadowed areas as part of the design, it’s perfect for beginners to help with adding shading and also to cover any mistakes 😉

I layered this one onto Calypso Coral cardstock and then a Basic Black card base with the same sentiment strip towards the bottom this time.

Petal Passion is just one of the Designer Series Paper packs in Stampin’ Up’s range, maybe black and white isn’t your cup of tea or you don’t want to colour, check out this quick video from Stampin’ Up! which shows off all the offerings in the current Occasions Catalogue. Today’s project could easily be reproduced using any of these paper packs just add matching cardstock and a sentiment of your choice – they really are that quick and easy!

I hope you like my quick and easy project today, these are some of my favourite cards so far this year, I guess sometimes, simple is best 🙂 If you’d like to see more ideas using this fun paper, hop over to my SU Occasions and SAB 2018 Pinterest Board, this paper is popping up everywhere and can be used for just about any occasion.
