Sweet Treats

Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrator Karen Robinson | Sweet Treats

Welcome to a brand new month! January just seemed to fly by and as Valentine’s Day is right around the corner now, today I have a small treat bag to share with you made with the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits and the oh so decadent, Painted With Love DSP.

Even though my project was inspired by Valentine’s Day, but doesn’t have to be for Valentine’s Day. I purposely chose sentiments that would be suitable for other occasions as well and although there are lots of hearts on todays’ version, a different paper and embellishment theme would give these bags a completely new look 🙂

To create my bag I cut a piece of 12″ x 12″  DSP in half and ran it through the Big Shot using the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits. The Painted with Love DSP is a specialty foiled paper and much thicker than our regular DSP so to minimise any cracking when I was folding the score lines I folded them backwards first and then in the usual direction, gently reinforcing the folds with my bone folder.

To decorate the front of my bag I cut another piece of DSP to 3-1/2″ x 2-1/2″ and ran it through the Big Shot using the larger thinlit piece to add a serrated edge at the top and flagged the opposite end to create a banner.

The leafy heart outline from Sure Do Love You was stamped off one edge and I added a die cut heart from the coordinating Lots to Love Box Framelits in the centre with a little twist of Mini Gold Sequin Trim next to that attached with a staple.

I found the easiest and most secure way to attach the banner to the front of the bag was using staples. I tried to place them as close to edge as possible for the top to follow the curve of the bag when full, but made sure they’d be hidden by the other elements on the front of the banner.

The sentiment banner uses the stamps from two different sets. The word “treats” came from Wood Words and “sweet” came from Dare to Dream (a host only set). The sentiments in the Sure Do Love You stamp set would work beautifully as well, I just wanted to break out some stamps I haven’t used for a while 🙂

I trimmed the sentiment strip down after stamping and popped it up on the banner using dimensionals, which covers the staples beautifully and sits nicely over the sequin trim. A couple of gold heart from the Metallic Enamel Shapes finish off this element and band of tinsel from the Love Mini Tinsel Trim Combo Pack adds some more sparkle to my little project – you can never have enough sparkle ;

I’ve added some tiny coconut ice in one of our Gusseted Treat Bags as the treat inside this little bag, the colour was too perfect for this paper, but lots of other small treats would fit as well. If I was transporting this anywhere or using these as favours I’d add some glue dots or a low tack adhesive to my treat to make sure it didn’t fall out.

I think these little bags could be used for lots of different occasions, the sentiment is general enough for that and a simple change to the paper and embellishments would give you a completely different look each time!

I love how Stampin’ Up!’s products co-ordinate so well, I know I can pull inks, paper, stamps and embellishments together to create lovely projects that will coordinate every time – their product coordination is one of the reasons I joined in the first place and worked beautifully for my project today 🙂

Cheers,
Karen
