Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrator Karen Robinson | Note cards for dad
Welcome to another Masculine Monday! Today I have a set of quick and easy note cards to share with you, perfect for a last-minute gift for dad. I made a set of these last year with a matching box for my Mother’s Day series and thought I’d try a masculine version this year.
I don’t know why I never thought of it before, but there would be a lot of men who need to send cards for their work or an organisation they’re part of and our Note Cards & Envelopes are a fantastic quality and so easy personalise, it would be a crime just to keep them for the girls 🙂
I wanted to keep the supplies to a minimum for this project so used the Eastern Palace Bundle and coordinating Eastern Palace Specialty DSP. This paper has colours and patterns that are perfect for masculine projects and the stamp set has just enough variety of sentiments to cover a range of occasions.
I chose a few different designs to mix them up a little and this first one is the simplest and quickest. I simply stamped a few images – stamped off first – on the lower part of the note card, added a 1/4″ strip of DSP and a sentiment above, quick and easy 🙂
The second pair uses 1″ squares of DSP, rounded on opposite corners and adhered in a column down one side. I think these ones are my favourites, there’s just enough colour and interest from the DSP, but not too much to take away from the clean and simple look of this design.
The last pair uses the most DSP, but not too much. This size layer uses a piece of DSP 4-3/4″ x 3-1/4″ which means you can get 6 from a 12″ x 12″ sheet of DSP. I added a contrasting 3/4″ strip and a die cut embellishment from the coordinating Eastern Medallion Thinlits.
A simple box keeps them all together and ready for gift giving. I kept the decoration on the front to a minimum with just a swish of Ombre Ribbon and another die cut embellishment with some simple stamping popped up on top.
The box easily holds the six I made and could probably hold 8 with their envelopes, I might have to add a couple more 🙂
A Quick and Easy Tutorial:
Finished Dimensions: 3-3/4″ x 5-1/4″ x 1-1/4″ (9.5 x 13.3 x 3cm)
Cardstock: 8-1/4″ x 10-1/2″
DSP: 3-1/2″ x 5″
- Score the cardstock @ 3-3/4″, 5, 8-3/4″ & 10″ (on landscape side)
- Turn 90° and score @ 1-1/4″ 6-1/2″ & 7-3/4″
- Fold and burnish the score lines
- In landscape, with the smallest scored section at the top, cut and notch as per the photo above
- Round the corners of the lid with a corner rounder (these may be need to be trimmed slightly after the box is assembled to allow the lid to close easily)
- Adhere a 3-1/2 x 5″ DSP panel to the front of your box
- Assemble the box using a strong adhesive such as Fast Fuse or Tear and Tape
- Cut a thumb notch using the 1″ circle punch
- Embellish as desired
I hope you liked today’s project and have enjoyed my gift ideas over the past few weeks. If the Eastern Palace DSP isn’t your cup of tea, these designs would work with any of our paper packs, I think the Coffee Break DSP or Pick a Pattern would make great guy cards as well.
