Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator Karen Robinson – 12 Weeks of Halloween 2016 – Week 3
This weeks’ project are some mini coffee cups dressed up and ready for some spooky treats. I’ve seen these decorated before but had never bought them until just recently and I just had to have a play.
The cups aren’t a Stampin’ Up! product, I found these ones at my local supermarket and I know you can purchase them online, just search for 4oz or 120ml Espresso cups. You could also adapt this idea for any disposable cup, just have all the decoration on the front, if you added a bit of fine wire you’d have a little Halloween bucket, I think that would be pretty cute 🙂
The cups are all decorated using the Spooky Fun and Halloween Scenes Edgelits Bundle, the Halloween Night Specialty DSP and matching washi tape and baker’s twine.
These two were the first ones I made, I kept the front of the cup plain, I didn’t want to cover up that lovely DSP, most of the decoration is on the lid.
The second two have more decoration on the front, I was so happy to find that the tree and fence edgelits suited the size of these cups perfectly, these are two of my favourite elements from this set. The little sign in the pumpkin one was made with a skewer (cut down) and a banner from the Gift Card Envelope dies.
The cups I bought have a spout in the lids that I had to work around, I made a template by punching a 2″ circle and re-punching it to fit around the spout as closely as possible. The top left and bottom right lids are the ones that match plainer bases and the other two are with the fancier bases. The bottom left witch was looking a little too plain, so I added some Clear Wink of Stella and now she has a lovely shimmer 🙂
Two of my cups have a little baker’s twine noose on the side which I though was a good idea for a more masculine style instead of a bow, just note that it’s a pretty simple knot to do but very fiddly with baker’s twine 😉
This project is so easy to make, the hardest thing is deciding how to decorate each one. I carefully took apart one of the cups to use as a template and then I simply traced around it on the back of the DSP I was going to use and cut it out just outside the lines (to give myself a bit of fitting leeway).
I used some Tear and Tape Adhesive to attach the DSP to the cup but you could make it as a removable cover if you preferred. You’ll definitely want to use your bone folder to help curve your DSP and any elements that will be on a curved part of the cup, it makes them fit so much easier.
I probably went a bit over the top with my decoration (and loved every minute of it!) but I think they would look just as cute with just the paper and a sentiment on top.
I hope you like todays’ project and remember that you could easily adapt this for any cup. This project is not in my free kit giveaway as I can’t send it flat and I won’t be sharing a Christmas version of it this week, I’m saving that for closer to Christmas.
Only one more sleep until the Holiday Catalogue goes live and you’ll be able to purchase all the lovelies inside, if you don’t have a copy and would like one please contact me, I’ll be very happy to send you one (it’s great).
