Stampin’ Up Demonstrator Karen Robinson – All the colours come out to play
There’s been quite a bit of talk in the Stampin’ Up! community about whether or not our new In Colours (2016-2018) go together. I’m leaning towards no myself, I think some of them coordinate beautifully, but all of them? not so much. However, I do think they work well together on this card and I think that’s simply because of the image, who doesn’t love a big bunch of brightly coloured balloons?
The colours from left to right are Dapper Denim (my favourite), Flirty Flamingo, Peekaboo Peach, Sweet Sugarplum and Emerald Envy. This was such a fun card to make and I hope you’ll give it a try. I die cut the balloon image (from the Balloon Framelits) out of a piece of acetate. Tip: I had to run my framelit through the Big Shot several times for it to cut all the way through and make sure you use a piece that will allow a big enough border around your cut out, unlike someone who had to stick scraps of cardstock to the sides, oops!
I used a sponge dauber to apply the ink making it darker around the edges and lighter towards the centre (I used some washi tape scraps to help keep the stencil in place). The balloon strings were stamped Smoky Slate from the coordinating Celebrate Today stamp set, I love that this set is photopolymer so I could give the string a gentle curve.
After I’d finished stamping I die cut the word “happy” from the Hello You thinlits from the card front (Tip: save all the little pieces in the letters from this cut only, you’ll put them back at the end) and “happy” was die cut two more times from Thick Whisper White cardstock. The card front was adhered to a standard A4 card base (make sure you get adhesive around the fiddly bits of the cutout outline) and the three “happy” die cuts were glued in one at a time on top of each other. The little pieces from the top word were then glued back into position.
I used my daubers to ink up the word “birthday” using the five colours overlapping them like the balloons, I cut this out with the Bitty Banner framelits (retiring, but don’t worry there are lots of new banners coming in the new catalogue) and popped it up on the front of the card with dimensionals. Two bows were stamped and die cut from the coordinating Celebrate Today stamp set and Balloon framelits and adhered to the front as a final touch.
The inside is simply finished with a couple of balloons highlighted with this confetti design (my favourite in this stamp set, I use it heaps!) in Dapper Denim and Emerald Envy stamped off once. (Please excuse this picture, this is so much nicer in real life, I promise).
This was the first time I’ve tried this technique and I am so pleased with the result. I don’t know how often these colours will be together in such a bold way (in my stamping anyway) but I’m so happy I found a project where they work together.
Look out for another project coming this week using that lovely balloon confetti image, I hope you’ll come back to see. If you’d like any of the products used in todays’ project (except the soon to be released ones) please visit my online store, I’d love to be your demonstrator.
Cheers,
Karen
