Bag or Box?

Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator Karen Robinson – Bag or Box?

In answer to the question, it’s a bag in a box, a clever idea that gives the illusion of a separate bag inside a box. I wish I could say I came up with it but alas no, I first saw it on Sam Hammond’s blog (pootles.co.uk) and she has a wonderful video tutorial that you can see here.

I have a bit of a soft spot for sweet packaging and love it when it uses a complete piece of DSP (no waste) so I’ve made my own versions of this cute little box that I think would make lovely favours or a little something for special ladies as a Mother’s Day treat. One of them is a little bit more dressed up than the other but I think they’re both rather sweet.

This project uses a piece of 6 x 6″ paper and the Envelope Punch Board (item # 133774).
You simply punch and score on one side at 1 3/8 & 4″, turn your paper 90 degrees and line up your score lines with the score guide to punch and score again. Repeat for the other 2 sides. A tiny bit of cutting and some glue dots and your bag in a box is ready to embellish.

Both boxes use paper from the Love Blossoms DSP paper stack, the stamp set Circle of Spring and the large and scalloped oval punches (the last two items are on the retirement list and are no longer available, but you could substitute circle punches or the decorative label punch, which would look just as nice).

My dressed up version (well, my version of dressed up) has white seam binding ribbon, glimmer paper and some pearl trim from the Love Blossoms Embellishment Kit. My simpler one uses whisper white baker’s twine and pearls.

Their dimensions are 3 1/4″ H, 2 1/4″ W, 1 7/16″ D, so pretty small and you might be wondering, what can I put inside? I was thinking the same myself and after a bit of brainstorming found there’s stacks of things that will fit. I’ll give you a few ideas but am sure you will come up with lots more, let’s start; sweets (too easy, I know), a small jewellery box, lots of options for jewellery in a bag, stamping goodies like embellishments, sponge daubers, ink refills, ribbons and twines, washi tape and that’s just the beginning…

I do hope you like this project and give it a go, they are really sweet (my photographs don’t do them justice) and I would be thrilled to receive one even with just sweets inside, however jewellery would also be gladly accepted 😉

Cheers
Karen
